Pimp My Kindle
Earlier tonight (that would be last night to you people who sleep), my cousin hooked me up with this link,
And what is this link you might ask? It is a Kindle lover’s dream come true, at least ones who have an interest in great classic books for free at least. It is a site where you can download 38,000 books for absolutely free. Needless to say, seven hours and fourteen books later I knew I had to write something about how great this site is.
From what the site says, all the books have no copy write for one reason or another at least in the United States. After reading through a good chunk of what they had to offer, I noticed that a lot of the titles are older books that are standard high school English stuff that they must assume people have read already at some point in their lives. I, however, being a high school dropout, appreciate the chance to catch up and in some cases push I with things most people would never read in a million years. Even if I did read a title back then, I look forward to the chance to look at them again with new eyes and new perspectives on the world.
To my cousin, another big thank you and to anyone reading this that is into the ebooks I say, go check it out, enjoy the disappearance of hours of your life just like I did, you will not be disappointed. They have a little donation box on the site too, so I also recommend showing some gratitude to these people like I did. Thanks to them, I have the rest of my winter planned out and I am still, a month later, thrilled with my Kindle and all the things it can do.
Speaking of which, I downloaded some Nietzsche and was surprised to find that the Kindle did not translate it from Russian for me. Since it got here for Christmas, I was under the impression than it could really do everything and anything. Tonight I learned that the Kindle really can be fallible but, you can’t have everything I suppose. Now I have to decide if I look for the translated version and download that or use it as an excuse to teach myself Russian so I can read it.
With so many books at my disposal, it is an undeniable fact that I am a convert, that I am addicted and that I could never go back to the dark ages where I had deliberately kept myself for so long. It is just unfortunate to now, when I have come so far and stayed so incredibly focused that I could be so easily distracted. While part of me says that all this reading must be good for me, it can’t do anything but inspire and help but then there is the other side that wants to stay in bed forever and ever with my kitten and read until my eyes bleed.
So, hours later, I guess all I am trying to say is book for more book reviews in the near future and definitely look forward to more of me gushing about how much I absolutely love my Kindle.
